The
meaning of being is a persistent theme, which for me is rooted
in the strangeness of reality and a sense of the absurd. Where inner-self
and outer-world converse as incoherent components or fragmented conditions
of existence, I am a casual consumer of multiple worlds; inhabiting
the hyper-real and dwelling nowhere, I am searching – always,
in the world, but no longer of the earth.
Through my work using moving-image media, I explore these physical
and mental dialogues, seeking what Heidegger termed a pre-linguistic
'clearing'; a liminal place where things can appear 'as they are in
themselves'. Using film to unfold visual phenomena through time, I
look at the formal, aesthetic qualities of light in relation to architecture.
My digital video projections or installations are a synthesis of this
metaphysical, metaphorical, and intuitively-guided journey. I try
to distill observations as the essence of wordless thought or silent
narrative, and as an empathic vision of implicit otherness. |
