  MA shows: Slippage
march 2008
march 2008  |  september 2008  |   november 2009
Slippage was the first MA Fine Art show to be held in Plymouth, and the inaugural student exhibition at the new gallery in the Levinsky building. The ideas for this exhibition were prompted by a range of stimuli: attending to the song of a blackbird; the undisclosed exposure of patient to surgeon; performing the neurotic self to a mirror; evoking the absences in a disused hospital; metaphorical conversations with water; reflections on household dust as resonant of absent presence. In each case something triggers a chain of thoughts which, through interaction with a range of media and materials, eventually leads to images of strength and purpose. The journey from stimulus to final work is sometimes direct and easily seen, but at other times involves many turns and detours.
